Every so often, a player in the NHL becomes known as one of the greatest players of all time. Alexander Ovechkin is a modern example of this, and may be the greatest Russian ice hockey player to ever play in the NHL. Today, we’ll be taking a look at Alexander’s long career to find out whether or not he deserves to be included on the list of legends alongside Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux. So, without further ado, let’s get started.

The Most Dangerous Modern Goal Scorer

Alex Ovechkin, commonly known as “the Great Eight,” is easily one of the greatest scorers of all time, and many consider him to be the most dangerous scorer in modern ice hockey. Among these people is legendary Canadian coach Ken Hitchcock, who called Ovechkin the most dangerous player in the NHL.

Hitchcock’s opinion alone may not be enough to convince you, and that’s perfectly understandable. Talk may be cheap, but you may not know that Ovechkin has recently taken his scoring record to over 600 career goals since he was drafted in 2004. This puts him in the 600 goal club, which has only ever been reached by 20 players in the history of the NHL. As of publishing this article, the Great Eight is currently standing on 607 goals, and is showing no signs of slowing down as his career is elevated to legendary heights.

Picking a highlight reel out of the hundreds that exist is admittedly pretty difficult for such a legendary player, but we’ve still got one more to show you just in case you haven’t seen anything amazing yet today.

Going Forward

It’s safe to say that Alex Ovechkin is among the greatest NHL players of all time, let alone of the modern era. His goal scoring stats and ability are up there with the greatest players of all time, and his career is only growing more and more amazing as he spends more time on the ice.
