The start of the Winter Olympics 2018 is just a few weeks away. In fact, the eyes of the world will be on Pyeongchang, South Korea come February 9. With the announcement made several months ago that NHL players would not be participating, the spotlight is now on the women’s national ice-hockey teams. From the USA and Canada to Sweden, eight nations in total will compete for glory and gold on the ice.
The women’s tourney takes place from February 10 – 22, 2018. Using the same format from 2014, the top four seeded teams play in Group A. The remaining teams will battle it out in Group B. Here are some more details of this highly anticipated tournament:

The USA National Women’s Ice Hockey team will feature 23 of the top female players in the nation. The team’s Head Coach is Robb Stauber – who brings years of extensive coaching and playing experience to the ice. Here is a full list of the players that will make up the team roster at the Olympics.
Meghan Duggan will Captain the squad and she’s definitely someone to keep an eye on. Duggan is a seasoned hockey player who has won several medals and awards in the past. Known for her leadership and strong playing skills, she currently plays for the Boston Pride of the National Women’s Hockey League.
Megan Keller is another notable player on this year’s roster. The defense woman hails from Michigan and currently plays for the Boston College Women’s Ice Hockey Team – NCAA. Megan also competed in the 2015 IIHF Women’s World Championship, along with the 2016 IIHF Women’s World Championship.
Emilia Ramboldt will captain the Swedish side and is known for her great defending skills. In fact, Emilia played for Sweden in the 2010 Olympics and is slated to make a huge impact at the Olympics this year.
The host nation, South Korea, is looking to goalie Shin So-jung to protect the net at all times. So-jung is an accomplished hockey player who has participated in several world tournaments in the past. She currently plays for the New York Riveters of the National Women’s Hockey League.
